7 Reasons Why You Should Watch Itaewon Class

Itaewon Class (이태원 클라쓰) just ended, and it's a good time for you all to watch all the 16 episodes without waiting, like me.  Plus, this is my highly recommended K-Drama that you need to watch right now because of these 7 reasons. I'm pretty sure you going to end up feeling refresh and inspiring after binge-watching all of those episodes, that's my promise.

In a colourful Seoul neighbourhood, an ex-con and his friends fight a mighty foe to make their ambitious dreams for their street bar a reality. - Itaewon Class on Netflix.
This drama is an adaptation from the webtoon written by Jo Kwang Jin, and excitingly, he is also the screenwriter for the real-life drama. For me, it's great, because he can expand the characters and stories that he personally knew without taking the essence of each of the characters.

A great intro? Let's move on to the other points. Take note that there might be spoilers in this post.

1. A-Class Acting

I'm really excited when I see the list of actors, they cast Park Seo Jun, Kim Dami, Yoo Jae Myung, Kwon Nara and others. For more detail about cast & summary, click the words to redirect to another website.

Truthfully, I didn't know about Itaewon Class until I click the first episode on Netflix. I wasn't planning to follow the drama at all but got drown to it. The first episode is intense, and all the cast delivered top-notch acting, to be honest, I got so emotional during Park Saeroyi cry scene. Then, more and more characters keep coming on the screen, and I would summarise it as a-class acting.

Oh Yi Seo (act by Kim Dami) is a solid female character (not your typical lead female character)  that I look up too in this drama.

2. Idealism and realism

Some may say that the storyline is a bit fantasy-ish, but for me, it was realistic enough. Yes, when you have the power, or you are a chaebol, you can control certain things, but naive me after finish watching the drama would believe that: "If you work hard, you can achieve your dream."

There are idealism, realism and fantasy element in this drama, but I can totally say that it is inspiring. If you need something that uplifts you, this drama is a perfect choice. But, be prepared that you will get emotional throughout the episodes.

3. It's a bit different from the webtoon

The Itaewon Class webtoon is really popular that has its own followers. I didn't get the opportunity to read the webtoon yet because I haven't found the translation version of it. But, if anyone has the link to the English version, leave on the comment down below! Thank you in advance. 😘

I knew that there are few changes in the drama (I would say enhance) from Twitter and this YouTube video. For me, I'm okay with a bit of enhancer, but as long the writers don't change the base of the character, I would call this as a success drama adaptation. What say you?

4. It doesn't feel rush

When I watch this drama, I feel like oh it's going to end that soon? The plot is not like your typical structure where introduction comes first, rising action, conflict, climax, falling action and conclusion. It goes straight to conflict then it's tone down a bit and went uphill again.

Like I said first two episodes are really intense, then they let us get deep into each of the character introduction for a few episodes, and then we get sweet endings on the last chapter. The climax is on top of the game, but they didn't rush things at all. I can capture all the story that they wanted to tell.

But, to be honest, it's quite surprising when Saeroyi was hit by a car on episode 14 because they didn't give any preview for the episode 15. My mind went pessimist totally and think that Saeroyi dies because he was hit by a car, HARD. I thought it was risky for them to give that another climax before the last two episode aires, but it was paid off.

5. It makes me looking forward to watching the drama weekly

Every time I watched any drama, not just K-Drama, there must be one particular thing that leads me throughout the way. Itaewon class definitely is on top of my 10 list drama that I would watch it again to kind of wake me up from my lowest point, just to give me a little bit of kick.

When you want to watch it again and looking forward, you can feel that there is something special about the drama. It doesn't matter if it's the handsome Park Seo Joon or impactful Kim Dami acting. My reason would be the storyline. We went through a tough time right now, with the Restrict Movement Order in Malaysia, this drama uplifting me and said to me that I shouldn't give up and the world we get better after the virus ended.

6. Most of the character were given closure

If you watch episode 15 and 16, each of the main characters was given closure.
  • Park Saeroyi and Yi Seo become a couple and has won the battle to get DanBam on top of the game.
  • Oh Soo-Ah has left Jangga and open a new restaurant, that's when the handsome chef (Park Bo Gum) comes in.
  • Tony Kim found his roots, the truth about his father and his grandmother.
  • Jang Geun-Soo loves Yi Seo but becomes an asshole for a while. But, he gets the closure from her about his feelings and decided to move overseas.
  • Choi Seung-Kwon and Ma Hyun-Yi get closer, and I think they are dating (should be right?)
  • Jang Dae-Hee (CEO of Jangga) and his eldest son, Jang Geun-Won are punished for what they did. Done.
  • Kang Min-Jung finally got her big role in Jangga.
  • Lee Ho-Jin plan is a big success.
That's basically summarised up the whole drama. I really like a good ending drama where I was given a good full stop. I'm not that favour of cliffhanger because for me, I've watched it for 16 episodes and if the ending is just going to get me stressed out, I would be furious. But, I  could say that another good drama for me, Strangers From Hell gave me an excellent ending too even though the drama might be a bit dark for some people.

7. Perfect original soundtrack (OST)

Music is one of the crucial keys for film or drama. The song selection in the show is absolutely beautifully picked. Gaho - Start really suit every scene as a whole, it's like the national anthem for Itaewon Class, and I just can't stop hearing that song.

Sondia - Adult from My Mister is my favourite song from that drama, so I don't have doubt that her song in this drama because it's fantastic. Lee Chan Sol - Still Fighting It was placed in an emotional scene which is breathtaking. You can hear Ha Hyun Woo - Stone Block at the end of every episode which called for more of that 'fighting' scene!
