I'm pretty sure wherever tourist visit certain country, they will stumble upon a shopping centre intentionally or unintentionally. That's conclude that shopping has became the main tourist expenditure and it seems to overtaking the share for spending on accommodation.

Early years of tourism, accommodation was an important element, but now tourist are choosing their destination based on where they can shop. For example, one of 'must visit' attractions for tourist are Oxford Street, London and Avenue des Champ Elysess, Paris.

According to Datuk Ab. Ghaffar, in 2016 tourist spend RM 26.03 billion on shopping alone, up 20.3% from RM 21.63 billion in the previous year.

Based on a report on the Tourism Refund Scheme,  43% of the tourist expenditure is on watches and jewellery (luxury items).

So, which country tourist spend the most here? *drumroll*

Chinese tourist are the largest spenders on these items! Then, followed by Singaporeans, Indonesians, Indians and Bangladeshis. This showed that luxury shopping and luxury tourism are growing and have it own potential to reach the markets, especially when Asia is leading the way as high retail spenders.
