Ultimate Penang Food Guide: 8 Places You Should Try During Your Stay There!

Pulau Pinang or Penang, in short, is one of state in Malaysia that served a delicious food! I have been to Penang a couple of times but never have the opportunity to discover a good food deeply. Usually, my dad just drove through the Pulau Pinang Bridge or just cruising away. The least I ate might be chendul and pasembur but hey it was a long time ago.

So yeap, since I'm adult and can travel with friends right now, it was really nice to discover my own country cuisine. I can't wait to discover more, but yeap let's start with Penang first 😙

Cheers! Get to grab my Butterbeer at Potterhead Malaysia!
Here's the thing, we are not just discovering eateries at Pulau Pinang, as we were also went to Bertam for personal reasons. So, that's why there are 9 places that you can eat in total of 3 days 2 nights. Leggo!

1. Chicken Milani Briyani Rice at Kapitan

At first, I'm not a big fan of briyani rice but this definitely change my perception to that. The reason is I just feel fulfiling, the chicken and rice is season nicely and all the condiments are complimenting each other. I even finished the onion, and that people are the first time I ate all of it.

The price of Chicken Milani Briyani is RM 11.90, and basically the portion is huge for one person.

2. Penang Road Famous Teochew Chendul

You can't leave Penang without eating chendul / cendol, like seriously grab the cendol before you head back. Started in 1936 by Mr. Tan Teik Fuang you can feel the love while you eat it. I know I'm exaggerated but that's how I felt when I ate this little fella.

I just want to say, the cendol is very flavourful with light coconut milk, gula melaka, kidney beans and the soft fresh pandan-flavoured palm flour noodles (aka cendol). You can get this goodness at RM 3.00 (sit on the site of the road and eat it) and RM 3.50 for take away.

3. Get Your Butterbeer at Potterhead Malaysia

Besides Universal Studio Japan (USJ), you can get a glimpse of the Butterbeer taste here. Personally, since I drank tons of it in USJ, I can say it taste almost the same.

I'm glad I get to discover a Harry Potter theme cafe because I miss all rides and food in USJ, this just brings back the memory and it's true what people always said, unplanned trip is the best thing ever. See the full menu here.

4. Breakfast at Mee Penang Bukit Tambun

Woke up and feeling hungry?
I think most of us can relate to this especially when you're in Penang. So, there are tons of mamak food in Penang and that included mee penang aka mee goreng. When my friend googled, this was on top of Google list and that's the sign that we need to try.

The mee penang is okay at first but it wasn't along the time (the sign you need to eat quickly). Maybe it was just me feeling it, but if you want to give it a try the cost will be RM4 only. Plus, RM3 for jus ambra it will be a RM7 breakfast.

5. Get Your Western Food at Kami The Kafe

Before I went to this cafe, I ate my dessert first: ais kepal milo horlicks at Tikam Batu area. Well I'm not sure the exact places, but if you see bundle shop and surau, that's the places! But then, we get hungry and decided to go to this cafe

If you are looking for an affordable western food, this will be your place. The staff is friendly, the food and atmosphere is great. We ordered 4 things and there aren't single things that we didn't like. Buffalo Wings, French Fries, Meatballs and Roti John Cena all of it for just RM33 are just insane!

6. Start Your Weekend Morning at Roti Canai Transfer Road

Roti Canai for breakfast are just perfect during weekends morning! Plus, this place is super famous that they will sold out in matter of time. So, the plan is get yourself in the morning to avoid queuing and get their roti canai.

Honestly, I'm not a big fan of curry but I'm okay with this curry. Plus, with RM8 you get a plate of roti canai and curry. If you think that it wasn't enough, grab some roti bakar before heading home.

7. It's Time For Lunch at Bangkok Lane Mee Goreng

Another mamak stall but this time it wasn't disappointing. The RM7 mee sotong is full of flavour and nice to share with all of your friends because it was quiet of amount. But, don't re-order yet instead get yourself pasembur from here.

If I want to be honest, their pasembur is a bit pricy with just few things being picked. Our pasembur was charged for RM13 and it wasn't enough for the big eater (yeap it's me). Overall, make sure to try it yourself and leave a comment down below which one is your fave!

8. Desserts Heaven at China House

China House is the longest cafe in Penang, I talk about 400 feet (120 meter) combining three straight buildings. Besides that, they should be named as cake house instead because their choices are absolutely huge.

We ordered 3 different cakes with drinks and it cost us about RM80 - RM100. I'm not sure the exact amount but I'm pretty sure the cakes cost around RM20-ish. Due to tons of different cakes, I would advice you to come early in the morning to avoid queuing, and the staff for recommendation.
